the difference between military and civilian soft-skills

Makes me laugh recalling the startled look on my new friend Dana when I answered her question with,

“Because in Basic Training, my TI used to tell me….
It’s tough being a 12 in a world of 10’s ”

That line cracked me up 40-years ago and still today after most of you don’t even remember gorgeous Bo Derek’s romantic comedy “10”!

But I digress!

Dana, hearing my story for the first time, looked like she saw a ghost expressing repeatedly, “but you’re not mean!”  Military?! Nice?!  Totally confused by the obvious oxymoron!

A more accurate “obvious” is beautifully written by fellow veteran and relationship builder #JustinWalker of his own experience near Somalia.

My experience is that each uniform earning the title “United States Veteran”, drapes a heart with no desire to fight, suffer, or bring harm. But rather expresses the very depth of passion and willingness to protect those who can’t stand, or who won’t.

That’s love.

how to talk with someone curious (how your plan is better than theirs they don’t have yet)

How about ask them!….

What would you like to know first?

What would you like to know next?

What would you like to know next?

And when you’ve answered their questions,….

Would you like to do something about [it, what they value most]?
– or –
Are you ready to get started on [it, what they value most]?

Now you’re talking about what they want to know instead of what you want them to know, makes sense?!!

Talk with them, not at them.

um, you guys

My head wants to explode listening to a webinar on interviewing for your dream job.

After the first half hour now that everyone is confident and warmed up, in the final 28-minutes alone counted…… 144 “um”!!!!

WHAT?!

Um, when did “um” become the first word in a proper sentence you guys?!

Which is the other telltale of a professional; or not.

Unless you are really talking to a group of dudes, forget the, “Thanks you guys”.

“Thank you” is fine.

dinner dishes to clean

So after you make that yummy salmon or other odoriferous dinner, take back the ambiance with your essential oils to keep the phew out of the air and in the sink for a good soak before washing down the drain.

Either YL Thieves or YL Purification essential oil blends are my two favorites especially for sanitizing silverware and sparkling plates!

Just drip a couple drops from the open bottle into your dishwater and swish.

Now THAT is a diffuser big enough to fill your room with deliciously crisp cleanliness!

how to paint a fence

That’s right this handsome man is my daddy!

No one tells his story like him, still, here goes a great life lesson….

So military procedures, 1955, dad and a couple boys were assigned detail to paint all the white border rocks that lined the perimeter around the Army barracks, and in the Arizona heat! You’ve got the picture!

Well, instead of painting all day with their toothbrushes, my dad who passed his genius onto me, led the team to pour all the white paint into a clean garage can and dip each stone before promptly and efficiently placing it back in its rightful spot. Done!

Of course they got caught when they had nothing left to do all day. Except to start all over painting! And this time, with toothbrushes.

Life doesn’t need to be so hard, right? Discipline is to teach you discipline, so you can trust your genius with common sense. I’m so proud of you, Dad!

Doubt whom you will, but never yourself!

that’s how life works

There’s a mathematical certainty that helping inspire 2 people, changes lives. Most people would say that’s awesome!

And when those 2 people help 2, BAM!, totals 4 more

Their 2 helping 2, totals 8 more
Their 2 helping 2, totals 16 more
Their 2 helping 2, totals 32 more
Their 2 helping 2, totals 64 more
Their 2 helping 2, totals 128 more
Their 2 helping 2, totals 256 more
Their 2 helping 2, totals 512 more
Their 2 helping 2, totals 1024 more
Their 2 helping 2, totals 2048 more
Their 2 helping 2, totals 4096 more

Do you suppose if you decided to help inspire 2 people this year, you would sleep ‘pretty good’ knowing you potentially changed more than 4,000 lives in just that one year?!

And if you showed your 2 people how to create an extra monthly commission on 400,000, would any of you still be living paycheck to paycheck? Or would you have the means to help two more?

I know what that felt like calling the bank to say invoices that month weren’t going to be paid. It sucks. Especially because it is plum crazy in the USA for anyone to still be living paycheck to paycheck!

Because now, when each of us feel the same and use $100 a month of any of the more than 800 quality natural products purchased direct from Young Living (or any other fine networking company), EVERY ONE OF THOSE FOLKS has the equal opportunity for an extra paycheck just for doing your part and being an inspiration.

No brainer! that’s a heck of a return on your investment.

“Tempe” shares treats with mom

ALERT: It is important the peanut butter you use is natural and that there is NO XYLITOL in the ingredients as it is deadly to dogs/pets.

1 medium Yam (or 4 medium carrots)
1/2 c. Peanut Butter
1/2 c. Liquid from cooked yam/carrots
2 c. Gluten free baking flour (likes “Red Mill” baking flour)
2 tsp. Baking Powder
1 drop YLEO Frankincense
2 drops YLEO Orange
– Or –
2 drops YLEO Spearmint

1. Simmer yam/carrots in small pan (with just enough water to cover yam/carrots) until soft…keep liquid and set aside.

2. Mash yam/carrots and add 1/2 c. of liquid.

3. Add peanut butter and mix thoroughly.

4. Mix dry ingredients together, then add to yam/carrot mixture.

5. Add liquid/flour to make consistency ok for rolling…then roll to 1/4” thick.

6. Use bone/heart cookie cutters (because dogs like their treats in fun shapes!)

7. Bake at 375 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
(can take up to 30 minutes if cookies are large)

These are delicious so she usually doubles this recipe. And suggests to make sure you test one… or two… !!
